Dog whistle & clicker training

Privacy Policy

The short version

PawTono keeps your dogs, their photos, and your training sessions on your device and, if you're signed in to iCloud, in your own private iCloud storage. Cues you record with your voice stay on the iPhone that recorded them. We can't see any of it. There are no accounts, no ads, and no tracking across other apps or websites.

To improve the App, it sends us anonymous usage statistics through TelemetryDeck, such as when a training session starts or finishes. These are not linked to your identity and never include your dog's name, photo, or your recordings. The App never asks for your name, email address, or location.

Overview

This policy explains how Buknal Enterprise LLC ("we," "us") handles information in the PawTono: Dog Whistle & Clicker app for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, including its widgets and controls ("the App"). It applies only to the App, not to other apps we publish or to our websites.

PawTono has no user accounts and shows no ads. We don't run a server for your data, we don't sell personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.

What the App stores

So you can track your dog's training, the App saves:

  • Your dogs: each dog's name, and optionally a birth date, breed, and photo;
  • Training sessions: the dog, skill, and goal, each click, miss, and jackpot, how long the session ran, and when it happened. The App uses these to show your log, streaks, and reward rates;
  • Recorded cues: short audio recordings you choose to make, with the names you give them;
  • Preferences, such as your whistle settings, click sound, which dog you're training, and your reminder time.

Your dog's photo

You can add a photo of your dog. You pick it with the iOS photo picker, so the App only receives the photo you choose. It never sees the rest of your photo library and doesn't ask for permission to access it.

The App saves a compressed copy of that photo with your dog. It stays on your device and in your private iCloud storage, described below. Your photos are never uploaded to us or to our analytics provider.

Recorded cues and the microphone

PawTono Pro lets you record your own cues, such as the way you call your dog. The App asks for microphone access the first time you record, and uses the microphone only while you're recording a cue. It never listens in the background.

Recordings are saved only on the iPhone that made them. They don't sync to iCloud, and they're never sent to us or to anyone else. Before recording, the App checks whether a phone call is in progress so it doesn't interrupt one; it can't see who you're calling or anything else about the call.

iCloud sync

If you're signed in to iCloud on your device, the App stores your dogs, their photos, and your training sessions in a private CloudKit database in your own iCloud account, so they sync across your devices and come back if you reinstall. That database belongs to your Apple Account. We have no access to it, and Apple stores it under the Apple Privacy Policy.

Apple sends the App silent background notifications when something changes in that database, so your other devices update. Those don't come from us.

If you're not signed in to iCloud, or you turn off iCloud for PawTono in your device's settings, everything stays on that one device.

Apple Watch, widgets, and Shortcuts

The Apple Watch app is a remote for your iPhone. When you tap it, it sends the tap to your paired iPhone, which plays the sound and logs the rep, and the iPhone sends back what the watch needs to show, such as your dog's name and your session progress. This travels directly between your own devices using Apple's WatchConnectivity and never passes through us.

Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, the Control Center control, and Siri, Shortcuts, and Action Button actions read a small summary, such as your dog's name and this week's sessions, from storage shared between parts of the App on your device. That summary stays on your device.

Anonymous usage analytics

To learn which features people use and how to improve the App, the iPhone and iPad app sends anonymous usage statistics to TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service. These cover things like starting and finishing onboarding and training sessions (the skill, goal type, number of reps, whether the goal was met, and how long it took), viewing the PawTono Pro offer, and whether a purchase went through, along with basic technical details such as the App version, device model, operating system, and language.

These statistics are not linked to your identity and not used for tracking or advertising, and we don't sell or share them. They never include your dog's name, breed, birth date, or photo, or your recordings, and the App doesn't collect your name, email address, or location in the first place. TelemetryDeck processes them for us under its privacy policy.

Training reminder

If you allow notifications, the App can remind you once a day to train, at a time you choose. The reminder may include your dog's name. It is scheduled on your device and isn't sent from a server. You can turn it off in the App's Settings or in Settings → Notifications → PawTono.

What we don't collect

The App contains no advertising software and no tracking identifiers, and it doesn't use your data to track you across other companies' apps or websites. The App does not collect or request:

  • Your name, email address, phone number, or any account login;
  • Your location;
  • Access to your camera, contacts, calendars, or health data, or to your photo library beyond the photos you pick;
  • Microphone audio other than the cues you choose to record, which stay on your iPhone;
  • The Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA). The App never asks for permission to track you.

Apple separately lets you share crash and usage reports with app developers under Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements. If you turn that on, Apple may provide us aggregated, anonymous crash reports. You can turn it off at any time.

PawTono Pro purchase

PawTono is free to download and offers an optional one-time PawTono Pro purchase. Payment is processed entirely by Apple through your Apple Account. To check whether Pro is unlocked, including when a family member shares it with you through Family Sharing, the App asks Apple's StoreKit for your purchase record on the device. We receive anonymized sales reports from Apple and the anonymous purchase statistics described above. We never see your name, card number, billing address, or Apple Account details.

Contacting support

When you email us at [email protected], we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to answer you and fix problems you report, and we don't add you to any mailing list.

Apple services

The App is distributed through the App Store. iCloud sync, the photo picker, the microphone permission, the Apple Watch connection, notifications, Siri and Shortcuts, purchases, Family Sharing, refunds, and the "Rate this app" prompt are handled by Apple under the Apple Privacy Policy. Apart from Apple, the only service the App uses is TelemetryDeck for analytics, described above.

Deleting your data

Because your dogs, sessions, and recordings live on your devices and in your own iCloud, you control them directly:

  • Delete a dog in the App to remove it along with its photo and training history, or delete a recorded cue. If you use iCloud, deleted dogs and sessions are removed from your other devices too.
  • Delete the App to remove what it stored on that device, including your recorded cues.
  • To remove the copy in iCloud as well, delete PawTono's data from your iCloud storage in your device's iCloud settings (under Manage Storage).
  • Your PawTono Pro purchase stays with your Apple Account, so reinstalling and tapping Restore Purchase unlocks it again.

Anonymous usage statistics are kept by TelemetryDeck only in aggregated or pseudonymous form for analysis. Because they can't be connected to you, we can't find or delete one person's statistics. Support emails are kept only as long as needed to handle your request and keep a record of it. Ask us and we'll delete your correspondence.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, and to object to or opt out of certain processing, under laws such as the GDPR in Europe and the UK, and the CCPA/CPRA in California.

We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by these laws. Where the GDPR applies, we rely on our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the App to process anonymous usage statistics. Your dogs, photos, sessions, and recordings are stored on your devices and in your own iCloud, where you can delete them yourself. The only information we might hold that identifies you is a support email you sent. Write to us and we'll respond within the time the applicable law requires.

Children's privacy

PawTono is a dog-training tool suitable for all ages, but it is not directed to children under 13. It has no accounts, chat, or advertising, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The usage statistics described above are anonymous and are not used to identify or contact anyone. In-app purchases follow Apple's rules, including Ask to Buy for children in a Family Sharing group. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

Information stored by the App is protected by iOS and watchOS and by your device passcode. Data in iCloud is protected by Apple's security for your Apple Account; with Advanced Data Protection turned on, Apple encrypts it end to end. Analytics are sent over encrypted connections, and purchases are verified through Apple's signed StoreKit transactions. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the App changes. If a future version collects new kinds of information or uses it in new ways, we will update this policy and the App Store privacy label before that version is released. The revised policy takes effect when posted on this page, with a new "Last updated" date above.
